Today I worked on implementing side pots in may poker game which was...tedious..to say the least. The basic way that side pots work is that, if someone decides to go all in and their bet is less than the amount that is currently needed to bet, a separate pot needs to be made for the other players so that the person who was short can't win the entire pot with an insufficient bet. I found that the most effective strategy to implement this game mechanic was to draw it out on a piece of paper and divide possible situations into cases that I could account for individually.
